1969 Modern Fiberglass and Metal Inc. was founded, manufacturing snowmobile parts and swimming pools.
1973 Production of fiberglass bathtubs and showers began.
1986 Acrylica Inc. was founded.
1987 Company was renamed MAAX Inc. and became public.
1993 to 1998 Strategic acquisitions:

  • Shostal

1998 to 2002 Market sector acquisitions:
  • Savannah Spa Manufacturing

  • C.E. Cabinets
  • Imperial Woodcraft
  • SaniNova
  • Aker Plastics
2004 A new consortium, including members of MAAX upper management, acquired the Company.
2006 MAAX exited the Kitchen cabinetry sector.
2008 Tricap Partners Ltd., a private equity fund managed by Brookfield Asset Management, acquired MAAX.


The Name MAAX

It was coined by combining the first letter of each of the following words:

  • M for our first division Modern Fiberglass Inc.
  • A for our second subsidiary Acrylica Inc.
  • A for our subsidiary Archimède Inc.
  • X for the company's anticipated growth.
