Product Development Engineer or Technician

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of R&D for Canada, Product Development Engineer or Technician will be responsible for the various technical activities involved in new product development, particularly related to shower doors. This person will act as a key resource, offering technical expertise throughout the project, and requires a strong technical background. Development activities will include product design, creating 3D CAD models and detailed production drawings, leading FMEA, conceptualizing and designing detailed reviews, defining technical specifications for manufacturing, aligning with the supply chain and customers, providing on-site manufacturing support for production implementation and testing products.

Primary responsibilities

  • From the initial stages, design complete mechanical assemblies with fit and tolerance validation
  • Lead product development steps throughout the complete process:
    1. Work in collaboration with the industrial designer to create 3D designs and models
    2. Provide the engineering drawings and specifications of those models to clients and suppliers
    3. Oversee all technical activities (packaging, changes in materials, production methods, etc.)
    4. Ensure product quality through utilizing different methods of analysis (FMEA, FAI, prototyping, tolerance analysis, etc.) and performing representative tests
    5. Deliver in depth Design Reviews to defend tradeoffs and decisions taken throughout the design phases
    6. Coordinate production startup and ensure the total integration of solutions with all involved departments
    7. Communicate with and work in collaboration with foreign suppliers
  • Participate in various product improvement and cost reduction projects as a technical expert and is responsible for technical aspects
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes especially those for new product development, Engineering Change Request (ECR), drawing approval and management of PDM vault for Solidworks
  • Actively participate in the preliminary and advanced development of concepts for new products to ensure their feasibility and optimize their efficiency
  • Offer technical product support to various departments and plants throughout the company
  • Contribute to the advancement of the manufacturing technologies used within the company
  • Work with manufacturing, supply base and participate in market validations
  • Consult various stakeholders when defining technical specifications

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineer or experience as a Mechanical Engineering Technician
  • Bilingual (French & English)
  • Available to travel to MAAX’s alternate division locations in Canada and US as well as to meet suppliers in North America and Asia
  • Experience in aluminum and PVC extrusion design, injection molded component design a definite asset
