“We are proud to receive this recognition that attests to our long-standing commitment to the health and safety of our employees. I applaud the work of the Tring-Jonction Kaizen team—namely Sylvain Therrien, Sylvain Paré, Jean Gilbert, and Annie Caouette—who masterfully led this project,” said Nicolas Cloutier, Plant Manager.

“Congratulations to the entire MAAX team for their innovation that has led to this well‑deserved nomination. Our region is fortunate to have companies like MAAX who are true leaders in health and safety,” said Thérèse Blanchet, regional director of the Chaudière‑Appalaches CNESST.

The team developed a box handler on a bridge crane to reduce the risk of back and other musculoskeletal injuries. Spearheaded in fall 2013, the project was launched in winter 2014 with the creation of an apparatus that moves lengthwise and crosswise along a bridge crane. The "Harley" (as it was nicknamed by the Tring-Jonction employees) is relatively simple to operate and features controls on the steering wheel so that the operator can grab boxes with lateral grippers.

“Packaging is an important step that all products must go through. Those who have used the Harley say they never want to work without it again as it requires much less physical effort,” said warehouseman and workers’ representative Richard Grégoire.

“This innovative solution allows us to eliminate the risk of accidents at the workplace related to handling boxes. The new equipment could eventually be adapted and installed in other MAAX plants,” added health and safety advisor Camille Lirette.

The Tring-Jonction plant designs and manufactures bathware products, including bathtubs, showers, and Utile, the brand-new innovative shower wall solution that was launched in 2015. Easy to install and care for, U tile offers an alternative to traditional ceramic tiles.
