The term shatterproof refers to laminated safety and security glass. This type of glass is not actually unbreakable, but it is highly Shatter-Resistant. GlassShield® works similarly to the laminated glass safety technology used in the automotive industry, since the transparent film is permanently bonded to the glass surfaces. Therefore, GlassShield® is Shatter-Resistant and not shatterproof.

Tempered glass offers a great level of protection for everyday usage of your shower door, but having GlassShield®provides an extra layer of security, since it keeps most of the glass fragments together in one piece in the rare case of a glass breakage.

The shatter-resistant technology uses a clear, permanent, transparent film to bond directly and permanently on top of the tempered glass panel, which provides an additional layer of protection to the tempered glass shower door. It also offers a better retention of glass fragments, ensuring that most pieces of glass and accessories are retained in one piece in the rare event of a breakage giving you a safe exit from the shower.

Although GlassShield® retains most of the glass fragments and accessories together in one piece, this is just to give you a safe exit from your shower enclosure. You should never use the door after that and contact MAAX Technical Services for instructions on how to replace the glass safely.
